FAQ 1 - What is the procedure to connect the X'S-Drive to a computer?
Answer:
Y
ou simply need to connect the USB Cable to the computer and X'S-Drive - the X'S-Drive will be automatically powered on. Four "Removable Drives" will be accessible on your computer; the first Removable Drive is the Internal Hard disk (as the X'S-Drive can be used as a USB Card reader as well) and following 3 Removable Drives correspond to the Memory card slot.

FAQ 2 - How the files transferred to the X'S-Drive are stored on its internal HD?
Answer:
You can perform Copy Transfers from any memory card to the internal 2.5 inches Hard Disk of the X'S-Drive.

Note: It is not possible to copy from the X'S-Drive Hard Disk to a memory card when used alone.
If you have performed several transfers during the day with different types of memory cards, you can connect the X'S-Drive to your computer via USB to access all the files transferred.

When you access the last Removable Drive (internal HD), you will see that you can access folders corresponding to the transfers done. Also depending on the Memory card used, the folder names will be as follows:

- CF000x for CompactFlash
- SM000x for SmartMedia
- SD000x for Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard
- MS000x for Memory Stick
(x is the number of the transfer, i.e. CF0001, CF0002, CF0003...)

FAQ 3 - How long do the Internal batteries can last before recharging and is there an external battery pack to use the X'S-Drive longer?
Answer:
When fully charged, the internal rechargeable batteries of the X'S-Drive allow to use the device for 2 hours. It takes 4 hours to fully recharge the batteries.
You can use the external battery pack Power Bank (Li-ion DC6V-7.2V) advertised on this site to use the X'S-Drive longer.

FAQ 4 - Is it safe to remove a memory card while files are being transferred?
Answer:
No, when the lights are flashing meaning that data transfer is in process, do not remove the memory card from the X'S-Drive as it may result in lost of file/data, or even damage the X's-drive.

FAQ 5 - For the X'S-Drive II without Hard Disk, how easy can a 2.5 inches HD be installed?
Answer:
If you insert your own Hard drive into the X's drive, it will work if it has already been partitionned and formatted FAT.
Your 2.5 inches Hard drive must be 9.5mm thick - a 12mm won't fit in.
You cannot partition a HD via the xs-drive connected on the USB port.
You only can format the Hard Disk via the USB connection.

FAQ 6 - When I connect the X'S-Drive without the AC adapter to the USB port of my computer, it is powered automatically. Is the X'S-Drive powered by the USB port?
Answer:
When the X's drive is connected to your computer via USB, it won't be powered by it. Thus the batteries will be drained if you don't connect the AC adapter.
Note: When the X'S-Drive is connected to the USB port of your computer, it cannot be switched off..

FAQ 7 - What Operating Systems are supported by the x's-drive?
Answer:
The X's drive is compatible with the following O.S.:
Windows 98/98SE and Windows 2000 with a driver
Windows ME/XP, Linux Kernel 2.4 and above without any driver
Mac OS 8.6 - 9.0 with a driver
Mac OS 10.0.1 and above without driver

FAQ 8 - I get 4 Removable drives when my xs-drive is connected to my computer - what is the meaning of each of them?
Answer:
Each removable drive corresponds to the memory card slots of your x's-drive (as it can be used as a card reader) and its internal Hard Disk. Their definition is as follows:
- Removable Drive 1: Hard Disk
- Removable Drive 2: CompactFlash
- Removable Drive 3: SmartMedia
- Removable Drive 4: MMC/SD or Memory Stick

Although under Windows ME or XP you don't need to install drivers, installing from the CDRom will provide you icons for each Removable Drive to make it simple to know what each drive is.

FAQ 9 - Does the XS-Drive recognise a Hard Disk with multi-partitions?
Answer:
No, the X'S-Drive will see the first partition only of your Hard Disk.

FAQ 10 - Is there any limitation with the x's-drive?
Answer:
The limitation with the X'S-Drive is the number of transfers per type of card you can perform before emptying your Hard disk: the X'S-Drive can accept up to 9999 transfers per type of card.

For instance, your first transfer with a Compactflash card will create the directory CF0001. At the 9999th transfer from your Compactflash card to the X'S-Drive, the CF9999 directory will be created, and it is only then that no more transfer with the Compactflash card will be possible.
When the X'S-Drive is connected to the computer, you will need to copy all your transfer to a different media (i.e. Hard disk, CDRom) before being able to do some transfers again.
Otherwise, provided you still have some storage left on the HD of your xs-drive, you can rename the folders CFxxxx to be able to do some other transfers.

FAQ 11 - What is the purpose of the Reset button on the X'S-Drive?
Answer:
In case that the X'S-Drive hangs, you can reset it via this button - note that the data on the Hard disk will not be affected.

FAQ 12 - Can I use the X'S-Drive as an external Hard Drive to do back up of the files of my computer?
Answer:
The X'S-Drive internal Hard disk, when connected to your computer, is recognised as a Removable Drive.
You have full access to its content, therefore you can use it as an external backup Hard drive - we just recommend not to use folder names like the ones of the transfers (for example CF0001).

FAQ 13 - Is it possible to transfer pictures from the X’S drive to a memory card?
Answer:
Only when the X'S-Drive is connected to your computer via USB.

FAQ 14 - Can the data on the X's-Drive be shared in a networking environment?
Answer:
Yes, files on the X'S-Drive's HD can be shared in a networking environment, provided the host machine has the share functionality enabled for the unit.

FAQ 15 - What precautions should be taken while using the X's-Drive?
Answer:
Wait for a few seconds upon inserting and removing of the X's-Drive with your computer, so that time is given for the Operating System to recognize the X's-Drive. Avoid removing immediately after inserting the X's-Drive or performing repetitive insertions/removals.

Also perform from time to time a Scandisk on the X'S-Drive Hard Disk to detect and correct bad sectors if any.

FAQ 16 - Can I use xD memory cards with the X'S-Drive?
Answer:
The XS Drive Pro VP300 does not require any adapter for xD. You can use xD via the same slot as Smartmedia memory cards.

FAQ 17 - Is there any restriction on file types to be transferred from memory cards? I shoot mainly RAW files
Answer:
The X'S-Drive allows you to copy all the files stored on your memory card to a new directory on its internal Hard disk. Therefore there is no file type support restriction.

FAQ 18 - When you copy data from a memory card to the x's-drive, does it automatically delete what is on the memory card after the transfer?
Answer:
When you perform a transfer from a memory card to the X'S-Drive Pro, it copies all the data to the internal HD but it doesn't delete any file from the memory card.
You need after to delete the photos with your digital camera for instance.

FAQ 19 - Is it possible to directly boot my computer with the X's Drive on which OS has been installed?
Answer:
It is not possible to boot on a PC with the USB storage device because the PC OS must be loaded first so that the USB storage device can be detected.

FAQ 20 - The VP300 single file copy feature allows to copy file by file from a memory card to the VP300, but is it possible also to copy folder by folder?
Answer:
You can copy file by file as well as folder by folder from a memory card to the VP300.
At each transfer, a new folder (i.e. CF0001) is created on the Hard disk.

FAQ 21 - I get an error when trying to transfer from my MicroDrive. How can I solve this problem?
Answer:
As the MicroDrive requires more power, the internal battery in the first uses may not be charged properly. Charge well the internal battery, and perform a few transfers with the X'S-Drive connected to the mains. You should be able after to use properly the MicroDrive with the X'S-Drive.

FAQ 22 - How long does it take to transfer files from a memory card to the X'S-Drive?
Answer:

Please note that the X'S-Drive is not compatible with "Memory Stick Select" (ie 2 x 128MB)

FAQ 24 - Is the X'S Drive Pro compatible USB 2.0 as well as USB 1.1
Answer:
Yes, the X'S-Drive Pro can be used on a USB 2.0 as well as USB 1.1 connection

FAQ 25 - There is no clock implemented in the XS Drive Pro, therefore it is not possible to change the date/time.
Note that the date and time of files and folders stored on your memory cards and copied to the VP300 remain the same when transferred.

Answer:
There is no clock implemented in the XS Drive Pro, therefore it is not possible to change the date/time.
Note that the date and time of files and folders stored on your memory cards and copied to the VP300 remain the same when transferred.

FAQ 26 - Does the XS-Drive Pro supports long filename copying like the other XS-Drives? I cannot see the full filename on the LCD screen.
Answer:

If you connect your VP300 via USB, you will notice that the files have been copied with the full name.

FAQ 27 - I would like to know if the internal battery of the VP300 is user-replaceable?
Answer:
Contrary to the XS Drive I and II, the XS Drive Pro provides the facility of easily accessing the internal battery to replace it in the case the battery is dead.
You need to remove 1 screw at the back and you will have direct access to the internal battery.

FAQ 28 - I copied MP3 music to my VP300 but I cannot find how to play them when I disconnect it from my computer.
Answer:

FAQ 29 - I cannot switch my XS Drive Pro - am I doing something wrong?
Answer:
