  USB Floppy Drive

USB Floppy Drive

3.5

USB Floppy Drive
The USB Floppy drive, also called the USB diskette drive, is an external 3.5" USB Floppy Disk drive reader/writer. It is suitable for use on Windows PC's or Apple Macs, and can also work on Linux based computer. We have three types of floppy drives; an own brand standard USB Floppy Drive, an IBM Branded USB Floppy Drive and the popular Sony USB Floppy Drive

Still a great product!

The external Floppy Drive has become an important accessory with new computers. It connects to your computer via the USB port and it requires no mains power.

Yea, the floppy is dead!

Computers, both Windows and Mac based, are not shipped with internal floppy drives any more, so, if you still have data on a floppy disk the easiest way of accessing the diskette is via an external USB Floppy drive.

Easy to operate

The drive supports both Apple Macs and PCs, plugging into the USB port and has a data transfer rate of around 500KB/second. Its stylish looks will match most modern computers. It is lightweight and slim to carry around on the go.

The USB Floppy Drive reads 3.5" floppy disks with capacities of 720Kb and 1.44MB. Older 5.25" disks are not supported.

Works with Vista!
The floppy drive supports any computer with a USB port. So it works on Apple Mac computers, with OS8.6, 9.1 and OS 10.2 and above. On Windows computers, it supports Windows 98SE, Windows Me and 2000, windows XP and the new Windows Vista. The floppy drive will also work on Linux based computers with USB Ports.

Features

What makes USB Floppy Drives still so popular? Well, for years now computers and laptops have been supplied without a floppy drive attached. In fact, Apple announced in 1998 that the floppy drive is dead. So, for all those people without a floppy disk drive in their computer, the only way to get access to their floppy disk drives would be to get either an internal floppy drive, or much easier, add an external floppy disk. And the best way of adding a floppy disk to a computer is via the USB port. A USB Floppy drive is so easy to attach to a computer. It needs no power supply, and plugging the USB Floppy drive into the computer via the USB port takes just seconds. Its a real no-brainer! If you are interested, we have some background information on the USB Floppy Drive. By the mid 80's, the larger size 5¼-inch floppy disk format was no longer that suitable for saving and backing up data. The floppy drive capacity as too low, and the physical size of the floppy disk was too big. The actual floppy disk was difficult to use, prone to dirt and, well, floppy! They could easily bend and were not very robust. A number for new floppy disk formats were being touted as the replacement for the 5.25" floppy disk. Foremost amount them was the Sony small format 3.5" floppy drive. Several companies started adopting this new format, and the 3.5" revolution was started. 3.5" Floppy drives have a rigid plastic case and in place metal protective cover, reducing unintentional contact with the floppy disk surface. As the drive was inserted, the cover would move back, revealing the body of the floppy drive. The earlier capacities of the 3.5" disk were 360kB, later increasing the 1440kB. A write protect tab was added, so that the floppy drive data could be saved.
